Cracked nails are a problematic condition that repeatedly plagues our hands and feet. It is for this reason that we are doomed to live in constant uncertainty awaiting the possible pain associated with an unfortunate break. Nor can we enjoy the full possibilities that nail design has to offer us. Admittedly, you don’t die from it, but it’s better to take the matter deadly seriously. Because if you care about impressing with beautiful hands and well-groomed feet, nail plate cracks are the number one enemy for the beauty and aesthetics of your fingers.
If cracked nails appear on the feet, the matter should be addressed more intensively. Well, unless you are ready to spend a fortune on buying dozens of pairs of tights. After all, nothing ruins this garment as effectively as rough heels and cracked or brittle nails.
Cracking nails – what is the cause?
We should look for the reasons for the cracking of nail plates in our environment or in our own body. The causes of this ailment can be really diverse.
- Ringworm – most often manifests itself on the toenails. Because conditions are conducive to it: infection with a pathogenic microorganism can occur, for example, at the swimming pool, in the sauna, when using the shower or bathing at a place of overnight stay during a trip – anywhere where we go barefoot and we should wear flip-flops or protective footwear. Cracked nails in this case are usually accompanied by yellowing of the plate. The plate may also crumble and break.
- Household chemistry – cracking is seen mainly on the free edge of the nail, because here the plate is most weakened. Cracking is usually accompanied by peeling of the nail edge. This is a symptom of weakening and softening of the horny layer caused by contact with cleaning agents that often contain chlorine, ammonia, acetic acid.
- Cosmetic agents – cracking can be the aftermath of weakening of the plate by frequent washing of varnish with acetone. But it can also be a specific symptom of an allergy to a cosmetic.
- Vitamin and mineral deficiencies – may result from an improperly balanced diet, alcohol and coffee abuse (which leaches B vitamins and magnesium), or may be the aftermath of diseases in which there is improper absorption of components from the intestine, or vitamins and minerals are excessively excreted. Recent studies also point to vitamin D deficiencies as a cause of brittle nails, so consider gentle sunbathing in summer and supplementation in autumn and winter.
- Psoriasis – on the nails gives characteristic transverse cracks.
- Mechanical trauma – can either cause immediate breakage of the plate, or superficial damage that can worsen and cause the nail to break over time.
- Improperly performed manicure procedures – nail cracks are sometimes the result of filing the plates too hard or too deep.
- Nail biting – always leads to weakening of the plate, especially in its marginal part. In such a situation, it is not difficult to break – even with a slight overload or trauma.
How to deal with cracked nails?
- Ringworm or psoriasis – march to the dermatologist! In these cases, only a doctor can help. On an ad hoc basis, you can use over-the-counter preparations.
- Change your diet to one rich in seeds, nuts, vegetables and fruits, as these are the best sources of vitamins and minerals. Also supplement vitamins A, D, H, B, PP, as well as silicon, calcium, iron and magnesium. And be sure to lay off alcohol and coffee and strong tea.
- Stop biting your nails.
- Wear gloves for household chores.
- Replace filing your nails at home with a manicure and pedicure done at an Easy Nails salon in Warsaw or Wroclaw. You can choose from several different treatments, including the IBX System treatment, which strongly strengthens the plate. Also, give up using regular acetone in favor of professional nail polish removers.
Nail enhancement treatments at Easy Nails
Performing nail treatments at a professional nail bar serves to significantly improve the condition of the nails, so there is less likelihood of any mechanical injury to the nail plate. Among the treatments offered by Easy Nails, you will find those that are characterized by therapeutic properties.
One of them is a classic manicure without painting, ending with the application of a layer of colorless conditioner to the nails. An alternative is a manicure combined with the application of the IBX conditioning system. While the usual conditioner remains on the top layer of the nail plate, the active ingredients of the preparations used during IBX penetrate deep into the nail structure. What may come as a surprise is that the IBX system consists of two layers. The first nourishes, moisturizes and accelerates nail growth. The second layer, which is then applied, protects the nail from external stimuli. Both classic manicure with conditioner or IBX treatment can be freely combined with the application of Vinylux polish or hybrid. We will then obtain a stunning effect by giving a distinctive color to the nail plate while caring for the integrity of its structure.
