Effects of alcohol on nails and hand skin

Red cheeks or the blush of an embarrassed maiden at the sight of a handsome amant? Flabby skin or fine wrinkles left over from a smile and constant cheerfulness? Frequent dodging to a secluded place motivated by need or rather the desire for a quick gossip with the doggies?

“Beer glasses” are just the tip of the proverbial iceberg

With the help of figurative beer glasses, we are not only above average cheerful, but also inclined to find our partners more attractive – especially during social gatherings spiked with alcohol. What’s more, rumors are spreading about the salutary effects of red wine on the overall condition of the skin – especially on slowing down the aging process. Nothing but to indulge in blissful pleasure, or is it? In reality, however, it turns out that percentages are not a cure for all evil.

      Alcohol intoxication or dehydration

Despite the fact that alcohol is used externally during beauty treatments, its regular consumption adversely affects our body, especially its hydration. The process of neutralizing alcoholic beverages requires significant amounts of water. If only for this reason, it is estimated that we excrete twice as much fluid per unit of alcohol consumed. This leads to a decrease in the body’s water reserves and can cause a problem with ensuring an optimal amount of vitamins. This imbalance is externalized, for example, on the skin of the hands and the condition of the nails.

Visible effects of alcohol consumption on the skin

Prudent and occasional consumption of alcoholic beverages does not entail irreversible negative changes in our body. The same cannot be said if we often indulge in this sinful pleasure and in large quantities. The first signs of the effects of alcohol can most easily be seen on the skin.

Dehydration of the body contributes to dry skin. During the breakdown of alcohol molecules, free radicals are formed, which are harmful to DNA. They cause the breakdown of collagen fibers, which ultimately leads to the bane of every woman after a certain age, namely … wrinkles.

As a result of the high concentration of acetaldehyde, one of the substances formed in the process of alcohol decomposition, and the stimulation of histamine release, our skin easily blushes. In the short term, you can live with the idea that it is rather sweet. It’s worse if we’re already left feeling that way.

Despite the cessation of glaring at alcoholic beverages, blood vessels will remain dilated, as the mechanism responsible for regulating them will slowly begin to fail. Redness may appear especially on the arms, legs, torso and face. Any attempt to even out the skin tone with at least spray tanning will result in failure – the application of dye will further increase the contrast.

The skin also becomes more sensitive to external stimuli and possible irritation. If only from the perspective of attempting a depilation procedure, this is associated not only with more pain, but also with the risk of minor bruising or epidermal breakage. Seeking help in the form of skin care cosmetics may end in failure – cosmetics do not absorb as well as they should.

Nails are not only decoration, but also part of the body

Vitamin deficiency, especially the lack of zinc, will also adversely affect the appearance of nails. They will be susceptible to any mechanical injury, that is, they will be brittle and begin to be characterized by a tendency to split. Some may perceive this only as an aesthetic inconvenience. It is more difficult under such conditions to care for the nails to be long. Ba, any nail styling whether with hybrid polish or vinylux will not hold on to the nail plate optimally long. You can also consider the problem from another point of view. As a result of the changes taking place, nails may cease to perform their basic functions such as protecting the fingertips.

      Prevention and early intervention

The most effective preventive measure would be to give up the consumption of alcoholic beverages. Easier said than done. We can consider other remedies. The most important is to hydrate the body. For “promille blush”, antihistamines taken well in advance can help. Changing your diet to one rich in antioxidants or applying sunscreen daily will slow down the aging process. When it comes strictly to nails, it’s worth considering using nail care treatments such as a classic manicure with conditioner or the IBX system.

A snoozy evening sometimes pays off with a hard morning and a slow return to the world of the living. It’s time to take a moment to reflect and decide if we are really ready for the consequences of looking at the world for a long time through rose-colored glasses or maybe rather … beer goggles.
