Dry Nails: How to Restore Their Moisture and Healthy Look

We all dream of beautiful, healthy nails that are our calling card. Unfortunately, dry nails are a problem many people face daily. The causes of this phenomenon can vary – from an improper diet, excessive use of nail polishes, to environmental factors. So how can we effectively moisturize and nourish nails to restore their healthy and aesthetic appearance?

      Why do nails dry out?

Before we move on to methods of restoring moisture, it’s worth understanding why nails dry out. One of the most common reasons is a lack of adequate moisture in the body. When we drink too little water, not only our skin but also our nails suffer from dehydration. Additionally, frequent use of detergents without proper hand protection, such as gloves, can also lead to their drying out.

We must also not forget the impact of external factors, such as temperature changes, wind, or even central heating, which can dry out nails. It’s also worth mentioning a diet lacking in vitamins and minerals necessary to keep nails in good condition. What are your experiences with dry nails? Have you noticed which factors affect their condition?

      Methods for Moisturizing Dry Nails

      1. **Moisturizing Oils** – natural oils like coconut oil, olive oil, or jojoba oil are excellent ways to moisturize nails. Simply massage them into the nail plate and cuticles to notice a difference. These oils not only moisturize but also provide essential nutrients.

      2. **Hand and Nail Creams** – regular use of moisturizing creams, especially those containing vitamin E or shea butter, can significantly improve the condition of nails. Remember to apply creams not only on hands but also on nails and cuticles.

      3. **Supplementation** – a diet rich in zinc, biotin, and vitamins A and E is key to healthy nails. In their absence, consider supplementation to help strengthen nails from the inside. According to research, biotin (vitamin B7) is particularly effective in improving nail condition.

      4. **Rest from Polishes** – give your nails time to regenerate by refraining from polishes, especially those containing acetone, for at least a few days. Acetone has drying properties, which can further weaken nails.

      5. **Soaking in Warm Water with Lemon** – this home treatment not only moisturizes but also gently whitens nails. Lemon acts as a natural bleaching agent, and warm water helps absorb nutrients.

Prevention – How to Care for Nails Daily?

Daily nail care doesn’t require much effort, but it’s crucial to avoid drying them out. Try to avoid prolonged contact with water and harsh cleaning agents. Don’t forget to wear gloves during household chores. Regularly trimming nails and gently filing their edges prevents splitting and breakage.

Also, remember about proper cuticle removal – cutting them too aggressively can lead to micro-injuries and infections. It’s better to gently push them back with a manicure stick.
