Hybrid manicure has gained immense popularity among nail beauty enthusiasts. No wonder – durability, high gloss, and a wide range of colors are its greatest advantages. As this method’s popularity grows, new techniques and questions arise, posed by both professionals and those doing manicures at home. One common question is: can you apply hybrid polish on top?

Hybrid Polish on Top – Is It Possible?

Applying hybrid polish on top is theoretically possible, but you must remember a few key aspects. The top coat we use at the end of a manicure is meant to protect the color layers and give them shine. It is a protective layer, and its structure differs from that of colored polish.

If we want to apply hybrid polish on top, we must ensure it is a top without a dispersion layer (meaning one that does not leave a sticky layer after curing in the lamp). Otherwise, the hybrid polish may not adhere properly and may start to peel off sooner.

How to Correctly Perform a Layered Manicure?

Performing a correct layered manicure requires patience and precision. Here are a few steps to achieve the perfect effect:

      1. **Nail Preparation**: Start by properly preparing the nail plate. Remove cuticles, gently buff the plate with a polishing block, and degrease with a cleaner. This step is essential to ensure proper polish adhesion.

      2. **Base**: Apply a thin layer of hybrid base and cure it in a UV/LED lamp. The base is the foundation of our manicure and protects the natural plate from discoloration.

      3. **Color**: Apply thin layers of hybrid polish, curing each in the lamp. Thin layers prevent wrinkling and ensure even coverage.

      4. **Top Coat**: Secure the color with a top coat, cure, and optionally wipe with a cleaner if using a top with a dispersion layer.

      5. **Additional Layers**: If you want to add an extra color layer on the top coat, you can do so, but remember to prepare the surface properly – gently buff and degrease.

Advantages and Disadvantages of Applying Hybrid Polish on Top

The advantage of this solution is the ability to change the color without removing the entire manicure. You can add a new color or pattern to the existing top, allowing for a quick style change.

However, this technique has its drawbacks. Primarily, as mentioned earlier, the polish’s adhesion may be weaker, affecting the manicure’s durability. Additionally, extra layers may make the nails look thicker, which not everyone prefers.
