Differences between natural and classic polishes
Let’s start with the basics. Classic nail polishes contain various chemicals in their composition, such as formaldehyde, toluene, or phthalates, which can negatively impact our health. Formaldehyde is a known allergen and irritant, and also a suspected carcinogen [source: American Cancer Society]. Toluene can lead to dizziness and headaches, while phthalates are linked to hormonal issues.
On the other hand, natural nail polishes strive to avoid these harmful substances. They are water-based and often contain natural dyes and nourishing ingredients, such as plant oils. As a result, they are less irritating to the nails and the skin around them.
Advantages of natural polishes
One of the main advantages of natural polishes is their safety. Since they do not contain toxic chemicals, they are more health-friendly. For people with sensitive skin or allergies, they can be an excellent alternative. Moreover, natural polishes are often biodegradable, making them more environmentally friendly.
Another plus is that natural polishes often contain additional nourishing ingredients. They can support nail condition, moisturize them, and protect against brittleness. This way, our nails not only look nice but are also healthy.
Challenges with natural polishes
However, natural nail polishes have their drawbacks. Primarily, their durability may be less than that of classic polishes. Due to the lack of strong chemicals that ensure durability, natural polishes may wear off faster. This means that more frequent nail painting may be necessary.
Another challenge is the limited color palette. Natural dyes are not always able to replicate the intensity and variety of colors offered by classic polishes. If we are looking for a very specific shade, the choice may be limited.
Our experiences with natural polishes
At Easy Nails, we have been testing various products for years to recommend the best ones to you. Our experiences with natural polishes are positive, though with some reservations. Many of the polishes we tested indeed had less durability, but their composition and lack of irritating smell were a big plus.
We are convinced that natural polishes are a great choice for people who want to take care of their nail health and the environment. However, it’s worth remembering that they may not always be suitable for every occasion, especially if we need a long-lasting manicure for several days.
Easy Nails’ opinion
Are natural polishes better than classic ones? It depends on your priorities. If you care about health, safety, and ecology, natural polishes might be the perfect solution for you. However, if durability and a wide range of colors are most important to you, classic polishes might be a better choice.
We invite you to discuss this topic. What is your opinion? Have you tried natural polishes yet? Share your experiences in the comments.
