Gel nails have been extremely popular for years. No wonder, they are durable, aesthetic, and allow for creating almost any design. Many of us dream of being able to do them ourselves at home, saving time and money spent in beauty salons. But how to go about it? In this article, we will introduce you to what is needed to create gel nails in the comfort of your home and how to go through the entire process step by step.

What is needed to create gel nails?

Before we start working, it is worth ensuring that we have everything necessary. Here is a list of basic materials and tools needed to create gel nails:

      1. UV or LED lamp – this is an absolute essential without which the gel will not harden. A UV lamp is more traditional, but an LED lamp works faster and is more energy-efficient.
      2. Base gel, builder gel, and top coat – these are the three basic products that will allow us to create a durable style. Each of them serves a different function and is essential for achieving the perfect effect.
      3. Files and buffing blocks – to prepare the nail plate and give it the appropriate shape.
      4. Cleaner and primer – to clean and prepare the nails before applying the gel.
      5. Tips or forms – if we want to extend the nails.
      6. Gel brushes – will facilitate precise application of the product.
      7. Cuticle oil – at the end of the procedure, to take care of the condition of the cuticles.

Step by step – how to do gel nails at home?

      1. **Preparing the nails**
Let’s start by thoroughly cleaning the nails. Use a file to give them the desired shape, and then gently matte the plate with a buffing block. Next, clean the nails with a cleaner to remove any impurities and grease.

      2. **Applying the primer**
Primer is a product that increases the adhesion of the gel to the natural nail plate. Apply it in a thin layer and wait for it to air dry. Be careful not to touch the cuticles.

      3. **Applying the base gel**
Apply a thin layer of base gel and cure it in a UV or LED lamp. The curing time depends on the type of lamp and gel used, so it is worth familiarizing yourself with the manufacturer’s instructions.

      4. **Building the nail**
Now it’s time to apply the builder gel. If we want to extend the nails, this is the moment to use forms or tips. Apply the gel, modeling the appropriate shape. Cure in the lamp.

      5. **Shaping the final shape**
After curing the builder gel, we can proceed to give the nails their final shape using a file. Gently smooth the nail surface to make it smooth.

      6. **Applying the top coat**
Finally, apply a layer of top coat, which will give the nails a beautiful shine and additional durability. Cure in the lamp.

      7. **Finishing**
After completing the styling, clean the nails with a cleaner to remove the sticky dispersion layer. Finally, rub oil into the cuticles to moisturize them and take care of their condition.

It is worth remembering that the first attempts may be difficult, but practice makes perfect. The more times we perform this process, the more skilled we will become.
