Preparation for manicure
Before we start, it’s worth gathering all the necessary accessories. You’ll need: a nail file, a buffing block, cuticle nippers, a degreaser, a base coat, nail polish in your favorite color, a top coat, and cuticle oil. Are you ready? Let’s begin!
Step 1: Removing old polish
The first step is to thoroughly remove the old polish from the nails. For this, we’ll use a non-acetone remover, which is gentler on the nail plate. Soak a cotton pad with the remover and gently wipe the nails until the color is completely removed. It’s important that no remnants of old polish remain on the nails.
Step 2: Shaping the nails
Now we can focus on giving our nails the right shape. Depending on your preference, you can choose a square, almond, or oval shape. Which is your favorite? Hold the file at a 45-degree angle and gently file the edges of the nail in one direction. Avoid filing back and forth, as this can weaken the nail plate.
Step 3: Softening and removing cuticles
Next, soften the cuticles around the nails. We can do this by soaking our hands in warm water with soap for a few minutes. After softening the cuticles, gently push them back with a wooden stick and remove the excess with nippers. Remember not to remove too much cuticle, as they serve a protective function.
Step 4: Degreasing the nail plate
To ensure the durability of the manicure, the nail plate must be degreased. We use a special degreaser for this, which removes all impurities and prepares the nails for polish application. This step is often skipped, but it really makes a difference!
Step 5: Applying the base coat
Apply a base coat to the clean and dry nail plate. The base protects the nails from discoloration and extends the durability of the manicure. Wait until the base is completely dry. Have you noticed how the base can smooth the nail surface?
Step 6: Painting the nails
Now it’s time for the most enjoyable part – painting the nails with color. Apply a thin layer of polish, starting from the center of the nail, then continue on the sides. If the color is not intense enough, apply a second layer after the first one dries. Remember not to touch the cuticles!
Step 7: Applying the top coat
After the polish dries, apply a layer of top coat, which will protect the color from chipping and give the nails a beautiful shine. The top coat also extends the durability of the manicure, so don’t skip this step. Who among you loves that moment when the nails start to shine?
Step 8: Cuticle care
Finally, it’s worth taking care of the cuticles around the nails by applying oil. The oil will moisturize the cuticles and prevent them from drying out. Gently massage it into the cuticles and nails, which also stimulates blood circulation.
