You are aware that if you clean your hands with strong cleansers, it harms the skin. And do you know how your nails will react to it? Although the nail plate is a dead creation, but already the matrix, from which the horny layer grows, is as alive as possible. Fortunately, there is glycerin. And there are Easy Nails nail bars.
In our nail bars in Warsaw and Wroclaw for dry hand skin and to improve the appearance of the nail plate we recommend paraffin baths, but glycerin baths also produce spectacular results. The choice of treatment is dictated by the strong moisturizing properties of paraffin and glycerin.
Glycerin – the champion of hygroscopicity
You wash your hands at least several times every day; at least, because some people – due to their jobs – wash their hands even dozens of times a day and use for this not only hard or liquid soaps, which are common in use, but also detergents and disinfectants. The skin of the hands looks worse and worse after such treatment; the nail plates too. Know that even if you use super mild soaps, it won’t save you from drying out the top layer of your body. The reason for this is simple: any soap violates the skin’s protective lipid layer.
Theoretically, this can be prevented by lubricating the hands with a cream every time after washing. This is not always possible and usually has an effect until the next time you wash your hands. Glycerin works more effectively: thanks to its strong hygroscopic properties, it effectively binds and retains water contained in the environment and in the deeper layers of the epidermis. In addition, water binding is permanent.
Glycerol – a moisturizing alcohol
Chemically, glycerin is an alcohol – it is the simplest trihydric alcohol. It looks like syrup: it is colorless, viscous and thick. And on top of that it is specifically oily, but it feels different from, for example, the greasiness of lard or oil. Its moisturizing properties are due to its very high ratios:
- hydrophilicity, or the ability to bond with water molecules;
- hygroscopicity, or the ability to absorb water molecules.
In cosmetology, it is classified as a humectant, and its role (like any other humectant) is to increase water reserves in the stratum corneum. This means that glycerin will make the skin more moisturized, soft and at the same time supple and tight.
It’s all good if applied in moderation, as excess can only do harm. This rule also applies to glycerin – it is most effective when used at a concentration of 3-25 percent. Higher concentrations lead to dehydration of the skin.
Homemade glycerin bath and mask
The best results from a hand bath will be achieved during a treatment from the Easy Nails nail bar offer, but if for some reason you can’t use it with us, you can prepare the equivalent yourself at home.
Glycerin bath
Prepare a bowl of warm water. Pour 4 tablespoons of glycerin into it. You can add lemon juice. Immerse your clean hands in this solution and keep it for about 15 minutes. After this time, dry your hands and enjoy smooth and moisturized skin.
Glycerin mask
Mix glycerin with lemon juice. Spread it on the skin of your hands and leave it on for 10 minutes. After this time, wash off the mask and apply a good hand nourishing cream.
